The Legend:
There is an ancient Tamarind tree (Imli Tala) in Vrindavan that dates back to the time of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu (16th century). The story goes that during the Dvapara Yuga, when Radha disappeared from the Raas dance in a moment of "Maan" (spiritual pride/anger), Krishna sat under this very tree.
The rare detail is that the tree turned dark because it absorbed Krishna's intense feelings of separation (Viraha). When Chaitanya Mahaprabhu visited thousands of years later, he sat under this tree and was so overcome by the residual emotion stored in the wood that his golden complexion turned dark, resembling Krishna’s, while the tree turned golden for a moment. It is said the tree still "weeps" sap during certain planetary alignments, mourning the separation.
